Manager – Accounting & Taxation
GEM Resourcing is recruiting for an experienced Accounting Manager based in Mount Lawley, Perth. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity to join a respected public practice firm supporting a broad portfolio of clients. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring teams, building strong client relationships, and delivering high level tax and accounting solutions. You'll also play a strategic role in business development and internal process improvement.
About the Role: This position plays a critical role in supporting the firm’s growth by overseeing a team of junior accountants, ensuring quality control across compliance deliverables, and managing key client relationships. You'll be the main point of contact for your own client base, working directly with the Directors to lead projects, identify new opportunities, and uphold best practice standards across the firm.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate the following: - Lead and manage a team of junior accountants, overseeing day-to-day workflow, performance reviews, training, and development.
- Act as the primary client contact, managing communications, resolving queries, and ensuring work is delivered on time and to a high standard.
- Oversee preparation and review of financial statements, tax returns, and interim work, ensuring compliance with ATO and ASIC requirements.
- Attend and contribute to WIP meetings, manage job timelines, and assist in generating invoices, including monitoring write ups/write offs.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff, answering technical queries and offering constructive feedback on their work.
- Actively build client relationships by liaising with stakeholders such as bookkeepers and finance brokers, and by attending networking and industry events.
- Assist in drafting proposals for new clients and work closely with Directors to convert leads into active clients.
- Identify risks and improvement opportunities within team performance and client processes.
- Ensure internal systems and policies are consistently applied and reviewed.
To be considered for this position, you must be able to provide the following: - A minimum of 8 years’ experience in accounting, with at least 3 years at a supervisory or managerial level.
- CA or CPA qualified.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (essential).
- Proficiency with Xero, MYOB and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax legislation, financial reporting standards, and compliance regulations.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a deadline driven environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Must be based in Perth and have full Australian working rights.
